Manchester United are pushing for at least three more signings this summer after confirming the arrivals of Andrey Santos and Karl Darlow, with a deal for Aston Villa midfielder Youri Tielemans also understood to be in the works.

Santos joined from Chelsea in a £50 million deal, while goalkeeper Darlow arrived on a free transfer following the expiration of his contract at Leeds United. Tielemans, who has a £35 million release clause in his Aston Villa contract, has been linked with a move to Old Trafford and was recently part of the Belgium squad at the World Cup.

According to The Sun, United will look to add a midfielder, a left winger, and a forward once the Tielemans deal is wrapped up — a run of business that would take their total summer signings to six ahead of their return to the Champions League. The report does caution, however, that United could briefly pause their recruitment activity after securing Tielemans while they assess their options and manage outgoings.

The Tielemans update arrives amid a notable complication elsewhere in United’s transfer plans. The club had previously agreed a £35 million deal — plus up to £3.8 million in add-ons — to sign Atalanta midfielder Ederson, but that agreement has since collapsed. Atalanta director Cristiano Giuntoli confirmed the breakdown, saying: “We were stunned by Man United calling the Ederson deal off. Now we are working on a new contract for him.”

Manager Michael Carrick will begin preparing his squad for the new season during pre-season this week, with United travelling to Finland to face Wrexham on Saturday before heading to Norway to play Rosenborg. Further friendlies against Atletico Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain in Sweden follow, before a final pre-season fixture against Leeds in Dublin.

United open their Premier League campaign on Saturday, 22 August, away at newly promoted Hull City at the MKM Stadium.
