Manchester United have identified Crysencio Summerville as their primary attacking target should Marcus Rashford leave the club this summer, with West Ham’s relegation making the 24-year-old available for a cut-price fee of approximately £30 million, according to The Guardian.

Rashford is set to return to Carrington following a post-World Cup break after Barcelona opted not to activate the buyout clause in his loan agreement. The 28-year-old spent a full season at the Catalan club, contributing to their La Liga title win, but his long-term future at United remains uncertain. His reported wages of £17.5 million per year are considered a significant barrier for any club looking to sign him permanently, and United’s priority is to sell rather than reintegrate him into the squad.

Summerville is viewed as the ideal profile to fill the void Rashford would leave. The former Leeds United winger had a difficult domestic campaign, managing only five goals and two assists as West Ham suffered their first relegation to the second tier in 14 years. However, he impressed on the international stage, scoring twice and registering two assists in four appearances for the Netherlands at the World Cup before the Oranje were eliminated by Morocco on penalties in the round of 32.

United’s summer business has already been active in midfield. The club missed out on Mateus Fernandes after Tottenham Hotspur moved quickly to secure the Portuguese midfielder, but responded by bringing in Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans to bolster their options in the centre of the park.

Rashford’s return timeline has been clarified by England’s World Cup exit. Following their semi-final defeat to Argentina, Thomas Tuchel’s side will face France in the third-place playoff, meaning Rashford could report back to Carrington slightly earlier than originally anticipated. He will then be expected to train under manager Michael Carrick, despite remaining out of favour following his well-documented rift with former head coach Ruben Amorim. Rashford has two years remaining on his current contract.
