Man City spend over £150m on four signings as 11 players exit the Etihad
Manchester City have committed more than £150m in transfer fees this summer, headlined by Elliot Anderson's £116m arrival from Nottingham Forest, while 11 players have departed through sales, contract expiries and loans.
Manchester City have surpassed £150m in transfer spending this summer, with four new signings arriving at the Etihad as the club simultaneously overhauls its squad through a wave of 11 departures.
The headline acquisition is midfielder Elliot Anderson, who joined from Nottingham Forest in a deal worth £116m — one of the largest fees ever paid by a Premier League club. Alongside Anderson, City have brought in Mathys Detourbet for £21.5m, Jeremy Monga for a fee rising to a potential £12.5m, and Pierce Charles for a figure that could reach £10m.
The outgoings have been equally significant. Club stalwarts John Stones and Bernardo Silva have both left upon the expiry of their contracts, ending long and decorated spells at the club. Ashton Muir and Ezra Carrington have also departed on a free.
In terms of permanent sales, Manuel Akanji has completed a £13m move to Inter Milan, Nathan Ake has joined Fenerbahce for a fee rising to £8.5m, Jahmai Simpson-Pusey has moved to FC Köln for up to £6.4m, and Isaac Smith has signed for Barnsley for an undisclosed sum.
Three players have also been sent out on loan. Oliver Whatmuff has joined Stockport County, though he will remain with City during pre-season to cover their goalkeeping needs before linking up with his new club. Sverre Nypan has moved to Belgian side Lommel, while new signing Detourbet has been loaned straight out to AS Monaco following his arrival.
With pre-season preparations under way, further business is expected before the window closes, as City continue to reshape the squad.
