Mac Allister's father rules out Liverpool exit despite Manchester City links

Alexis Mac Allister’s father has publicly dismissed the prospect of his son leaving Liverpool this summer, closing the door on a potential move to Manchester City as the transfer window enters its final days.

“Alexis is not thinking about leaving Liverpool. He wants to stay at the club,” Carlos Mac Allister told WinWin. He added that while Liverpool have not yet opened contract renewal talks, the player’s own wish is to remain at Anfield. Mac Allister is under contract at Merseyside until 2028.

City had been monitoring the Argentina international as a contingency option should their pursuit of Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez break down. Fernandez remains the club’s primary midfield target, with City understood to need at least £120 million to secure his signature. Chelsea set a deadline earlier this month for bids to be submitted, though they have consistently maintained confidence that a deal can be reached. Fernandez was notably absent from Chelsea’s matchday squads for recent Premier League fixtures against Luton Town and Brighton, fuelling speculation that a transfer is close.

Mac Allister had also attracted interest from Real Madrid earlier in the window, though no formal bid was received from the La Liga club.

Beyond midfield, City are active in the market for attacking reinforcements following the departures of Savinho and Omar Marmoush. Cody Gakpo of Liverpool has emerged as a potential target as City look to bolster their forward line. Palmeiras winger Allan Elias is understood to be on the verge of joining the club, though a further attacking signing is still being sought to adequately cover Marmoush’s departure.

Everton forward Iliman Ndiaye had also been on City’s radar, but Tottenham have reportedly agreed a deal to sign the Senegalese winger, with Richarlison moving in the opposite direction as part of a separate arrangement.

The transfer window closes on Tuesday, 1 September at 11pm.
