Carlos Mac Allister has publicly dismissed rumours linking his son Alexis to Real Madrid and sought to defuse growing tension over the Liverpool midfielder’s stalled contract situation, telling Scores 365 that no one from the Spanish club has “contacted us at any point in the entire career of Alexis.”

The intervention comes days after Alexis Mac Allister made a candid admission that he was “very, very sad” after learning Liverpool were not in a position to offer him a new deal — a revelation that drew widespread attention ahead of the club’s Champions League win over Atletico Madrid. The Argentine said he had received options to leave in the summer but chose to stay, adding: “The fans don’t need to worry because I will give 100 per cent until the last day I am here.”

His father, a former Argentina international himself, acknowledged that no one from Liverpool’s management had been in touch following those remarks, but was careful not to frame the situation as a crisis. “We have a contract that is valid and we are committed to it with Liverpool,” Carlos said. “And if the club does not offer to renew the contract, it is their right. For now, Alexis has to give his best for the club in every game.”

The midfielder’s comments last week were partly prompted by the contrast with his fellow 2023 summer arrivals. Both Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch have received contract improvements this year, while Mac Allister — who has scored twice in his last two games — remains on his existing terms. He said he was “very happy” for his teammates but admitted the situation stung personally.

Carlos Mac Allister was equally measured on the broader picture. “Alexis is not disappointed. This is a decision that the club makes, and we don’t judge their decisions, we just prepare for what’s to come.”

Mac Allister is expected to feature for Liverpool when they travel to Bournemouth on Sunday.
