Lucas Digne agrees to join PSG for €12m after World Cup
Established as a regular starter for France at the 2026 World Cup, Lucas Digne (32) has agreed to return to PSG from Aston Villa. The Paris club is set to activate a purchase option valued at €12 million.
Lucas Digne is on the verge of rejoining Paris Saint-Germain ten years after leaving the club. According to Foot Mercato, the left-back from Aston Villa (32) has agreed to a transfer to PSG, with the deal worth €12 million via a purchase option. The Paris club is in discussions with the English side to finalize the terms of the operation.
The timing is somewhat unexpected. Before the 2026 World Cup began, few anticipated seeing Digne establish himself as a regular starter for France. Capitalizing on Théo Hernandez’s poor form on the left flank, the former PSG player — who wore the capital club’s colors between 2013 and 2016, making 44 appearances — featured in virtually all three knockout matches for the Blues. He is expected to start again for Didier Deschamps against Spain in the semi-final.
The Digne option addresses a genuine issue at PSG: the physical fragility of Nuno Mendes. The Portuguese international was regularly hampered by a thigh problem last season and had to leave early in the quarter-final between Portugal and Spain at the same World Cup due to another injury in the same area. While Mendes remains one of the world’s best left-backs when available, PSG is seeking a backup capable of providing quality rotation.
Digne, who has had a solid season with Aston Villa — fourth in the Premier League — ticks those boxes. Reliable, experienced (62 caps) and already familiar with the club, he represents an economically controlled solution for a PSG looking to strengthen without excessive spending. His arrival is planned for after the 2026 World Cup.
