Liverpool have officially confirmed the transfer of Jérémy Jacquet, a 20-year-old defender from Stade Rennais, for approximately €70 million. The player has signed a five-year contract at Anfield, subject to international clearance.

The deal had been in the works for six months, but its completion almost never happened: as early as February, Jacquet suffered a shoulder injury that sidelined him for almost the entire end of the season. The Bondy native ultimately played just two official matches after the winter agreement was concluded, and 33 in total in a Rennes shirt — plus 24 appearances during a loan spell at Clermont the previous season.

None of this prevented the young centre-back from becoming Stade Rennais’ most lucrative sale in history. He surpasses the record held by Jérémy Doku, who was sold to Manchester City in summer 2023 for €60 million, ahead of Désiré Doué, who transferred to Paris Saint-Germain for approximately €50 million in 2024.

“Liverpool have completed the transfer of defender Jérémy Jacquet from Stade Rennais, as part of a long-term contract,” the Reds confirmed in their official statement.

On the player’s side, enthusiasm is evident. “A club like Liverpool is a big dream for me,” Jacquet said. “I feel really good, the first impressions are positive and I’m very happy to start here. When I see the facilities, I already feel at home.”

Liverpool are banking on one of the most promising French defenders of his generation, despite a season disrupted by injury troubles. For Rennes, the deal closes a cycle that began with the sale of Doku and confirms the Breton club’s ability to develop and enhance talent at the highest level of European football.
