Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain for an initial £106m, a fee that could rise to £123m including add-ons, with the France winger expected to put pen to paper on a five-year contract at Anfield.

The transfer makes Barcola the second most expensive signing in Liverpool’s history, surpassed only by Alexander Isak, who cost £125m last summer. He arrives ahead of Florian Wirtz, who joined for £100m — a fee that could climb to £116m — underlining the scale of Liverpool’s summer spending under new head coach Andoni Iraola.

PSG had initially quoted Liverpool £145m for the 22-year-old, a figure the Merseyside club were unwilling to meet. An outline agreement was reached earlier this week following a breakthrough in negotiations, with the two clubs finalising the terms of the deal shortly after.

Iraola, who took charge at Anfield this summer, has made signing wide players a priority in his first transfer window. He has already brought in fellow Spaniard Victor Munoz from Osasuna, and Liverpool also made enquiries for a number of other wingers during the window — including two bids for Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh, a single offer for RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande, who ultimately joined Real Madrid, and consideration of Crystal Palace’s Ismaila Sarr.

With Tuesday’s transfer deadline approaching, it remains unclear whether Liverpool will pursue a third winger before the window closes. Should they do so, Cody Gakpo could be among those to depart.
