Lindblad credits Lawson rivalry for Racing Bulls overtaking Alpine in constructors' standings
Nineteen-year-old Racing Bulls rookie Arvid Lindblad says a competitive but genuinely friendly relationship with team-mate Liam Lawson has driven six consecutive points finishes and helped the team climb above Alpine in the constructors' championship.
Arvid Lindblad has attributed Racing Bulls’ surge up the constructors’ standings to the productive on-track rivalry he shares with team-mate Liam Lawson, with the 19-year-old crediting their dynamic as a key factor behind the team’s recent run of form.
The British rookie made an encouraging start to his debut Formula 1 campaign, scoring four points with an eighth-place finish at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix. A points drought followed across Japan, Miami and Canada, but Lindblad has since strung together six consecutive scoring finishes — a consistency that, combined with Lawson’s own results, allowed Racing Bulls to overtake Alpine in the constructors’ standings before the summer break.
“Honestly, I’d say we have a good relationship,” Lindblad told F1.com. “I think together we’ve done a really good job to have a good dynamic in general, really being able to switch between the on and off track. On track, we both want to beat the other, and that’s the nature of sport, but when we are out of the car, we have a genuine, nice relationship, and there’s a nice dynamic within the team. That’s made it enjoyable.”
Lindblad was clear that the internal competition between the two drivers has been a net positive for the entire outfit. “We’ve pushed each other on a lot, and I think that’s been good for both of us. It’s also good for the team, as the more we push each other, the more performance we get, and that’s showing through the results.”
He was also careful to acknowledge the role of the engineering side. “The team have done an amazing job to continue to bring performance to the car, and that is why we’ve been so competitive the last few weekends, but I also think me and Liam pushing each other every weekend has helped that.”
Beyond the results, the pair have become a visible presence in Racing Bulls’ content output, which has built a substantial fanbase — the team counts four million followers on Instagram and 2.3 million on TikTok.
