Albon's sharp Red Bull jibe steals the show in F1's Grill The Grid anniversary episode
Alex Albon drew the biggest laughs in Formula 1's 10th-anniversary Grill The Grid episode, joking that every driver who passed through Red Bull had been fired — a self-deprecating nod to his own exit from the team in 2020.
Alex Albon delivered the standout moment of Formula 1’s 10th-anniversary Grill The Grid episode, cracking a pointed joke about Red Bull’s driver programme that sent fans into a frenzy online.
The challenge asked current drivers to identify former racers from career progression charts. When Albon was shown a chart featuring Toro Rosso followed by Red Bull, the Williams driver pointed at the Milton Keynes team’s logo and quipped: “There’s no driver that’s had this. Everyone’s been fired at this point.”
The line landed immediately with viewers. “Alex got PTSD: Post Traumatic SackedbyRedBull Disorder,” one fan wrote in the comments, while another simply posted: “ALEX SAYING THEY GET FIRED AT THAT POINT AHAH.” Albon himself was dropped by Red Bull at the end of the 2020 season before eventually rebuilding his career at Williams.
The chart in question turned out to belong to four-time world champion Max Verstappen — a fact that tripped up several drivers beyond Albon. “2nd Red Bull seat traumatised drivers so much that they forgot who was in the 1st seat,” one YouTube commenter observed, while another noted: “All of them blanking on Verstappen is crazy.”
Albon was not the only driver to attract attention during the episode. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc earned praise for his enthusiasm, reciting drivers’ full legal names with what fans described as genuine delight. “It’s so funny how Charles says their complete legal name with an excited voice,” one viewer wrote, while another added: “Leclerc said Lewis Hamilton and Michael Schumacher with such joy and whimsy.”
Lewis Hamilton also drew comment after incorrectly naming Liam Lawson as Isack Hadjar’s current team-mate at Racing Bulls. “Lewis so unc he thinks Hadjar’s team-mate is Lawson,” a fan noted.
In terms of the actual scoring, George Russell and Oscar Piastri led the first round with 22 points each. Verstappen finished third on 21 points, with Albon just behind on 20.
