Liam Gallagher has thrown his support behind England’s impromptu World Cup anthem after supporters and players united in singing Oasis’s 1995 classic Wonderwall at full time following the team’s 2-1 comeback victory over DR Congo on Wednesday, with Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane scoring both goals.

The tradition started after England’s tournament opener — a 4-2 win against Croatia — when fans spontaneously broke into the song at the final whistle. It has since become a fixture after each match, with the squad lining up in front of the supporters to join in.

Gallagher, 53, responded on X after the DR Congo win: “Let’s keep the biblical vibrations going if the governments we put in power can’t bring it then it’s down to the people c’mon England.” In a follow-up post he added: “The country needs good vibrations until the mighty O comes back, life is meant to be good not shit.”

The rock star also singled out Kane for praise, posting “Harry Kane, lick it up to ras” after the striker’s brace sealed the win.

When fans in the replies pressed Gallagher on the prospect of an Oasis reunion following the band’s 2025 tour, he joked he could not reveal any details “for security reasons”.

Gallagher also turned pundit, predicting England would beat Mexico 5-0 at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City when the two sides meet in a last-16 clash on Monday, 6 July. England have lost only twice at that venue in competitive fixtures.

Wonderwall was written by Gallagher’s brother Noel and reached number two on the UK singles chart on its release in 1995, making it one of the Manchester band’s most enduring songs. Beyond its new life at England games, it is also played after home matches at Manchester City — the club both Gallagher brothers support.
