Larsonneur knee injury sidelines ASSE's goalkeeper for several months
Ligue 2 leaders Saint-Étienne could be without goalkeeper Gautier Larsonneur until 2026. The 29-year-old suffered a right knee injury during the match against Rodez, with a ligament reportedly damaged according to multiple sources.
Gautier Larsonneur is suffering from a right knee injury sustained during the Ligue 2 match against Rodez last weekend, and his absence could extend over several months. The starting goalkeeper for AS Saint-Étienne, leaders of the championship, will miss Saturday’s away trip to Stade Bauer to face Red Star FC.
Head coach Ian Cathro confirmed his goalkeeper’s absence at a press conference on Thursday, without specifying the length of unavailability. “He has an injury we cannot ignore. Now we need to determine the process, the way forward, and when we are able to communicate, we will,” said the Scottish manager, preferring not to commit to a definitive diagnosis.
According to insider Mohamed Toubache-ter, a ligament is reportedly damaged — though not the cruciate ligaments. If this information is confirmed, Larsonneur could miss approximately three months of competition and not play again in 2025. An absence of this length would deprive ASSE of its key goalkeeper during a decisive stretch of the promotion race to Ligue 1.
At 29 years old, Larsonneur has established himself as one of the pillars of the Saint-Étienne squad since the start of the season. His absence represents a significant blow for a club occupying the top of the standings and targeting a return to the elite.
