Larry Tanenbaum, ASSE Owner, Estimated at $2.5 Billion Fortune
According to the 311 Private Wealth Index, Larry Tanenbaum, owner of AS Saint-Étienne since June 2024 through Kilmer Sports, has an estimated net worth of $2.5 billion, ranking him 694th among the world's wealthiest individuals.
Larry Tanenbaum, owner of AS Saint-Étienne since June 2024 through his holding company Kilmer Sports, ranks among the world’s major fortunes with an estimated net worth of $2.5 billion (approximately €2.2 billion), according to the 311 Private Wealth Index published in October by the 311 Institute.
The 81-year-old Canadian businessman holds 694th place in the global ranking, with an estimated range between $2 billion and $2.9 billion. This valuation is based primarily on his investments in North American sports: Tanenbaum held 80% of Kilmer Sports, which until recently owned 25% of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment (MLSE), the group that owns the Toronto Raptors in the NBA and the Toronto Maple Leafs in the NHL.
The sale of this stake to Rogers for $4.35 billion Canadian dollars represents the most significant transaction in his investment career. The portion indirectly accruing to Tanenbaum is estimated at approximately $2.45 billion US dollars. Despite this sale, he retains interests in basketball and women’s hockey in North America.
In Europe, his most visible investment remains AS Saint-Étienne, acquired just over two years ago. The Forez club, which competes in Ligue 1 after returning to the top flight, thus has an owner with solid financial backing — at least according to available estimates. The 311 Institute itself notes that its valuations do not constitute audited assessments, but provide an indication of the financial weight of the Canadian shareholder of the Greens.
