Lacey, who announced himself to a wider audience with a goal against Brighton in the Carabao Cup, made a promise to a young fan named Hanson outside the team hotel after the Fulham match. Hanson had attended with his father and held up a handmade sign reading: “Shea, can I have your shirt please.” Lacey told the pair he would find them after the final whistle if he spotted them — and he kept his word. It was not the first time Lacey had shown that side of his character; he previously gifted a pair of boots to a young supporter at Carrington.

Kamason injury update

Defender Jaydan Kamason missed the Under-21s’ final pre-break fixture against Brentford with a minor knock, though sources described his absence as precautionary. The issue is understood to be a small niggle, and Kamason is expected to return within a couple of weeks.

When fit, Kamason will be targeting a loan move in January. Championship clubs registered interest during the summer window, but United opted to keep him in the academy for the first half of the season to guarantee him regular minutes. Before the injury, he had been in sharp form, registering assists in games against Ipswich Town and Leicester.

Ibragimov on fire

Eighteen-year-old Amir Ibragimov has been one of the standout performers in the Under-21s’ bright start, contributing two goals and two assists in four appearances. He was particularly influential in the 3-2 win over Brentford before the break, equalising with a composed finish from the edge of the box when United were trailing.

Ibragimov made his senior international debut for Russia earlier this year and became the third-youngest player to represent the nation, earning two caps. His absence from Russia’s expanded squad for this international break — which featured matches against Iran, Namibia and Nigeria — was attributed to a desire to remain in Manchester and focus on his club development. Notably, FIFA regulations allow players who have earned up to three senior caps before the age of 21 to switch national allegiance, leaving Ibragimov’s international future an open question.
