Kai Rooney and Jacey Carrick among Man United scholars heading to Germany for pre-season
Manchester United's academy PDP squad, including first-year scholars Kai Rooney and Jacey Carrick, will travel to Germany next week for a pre-season camp featuring friendlies against TSV 1860 Munich U17s and FC Nurnberg U19s on July 17.
Manchester United’s academy PDP squad will face TSV 1860 Munich U17s and FC Nurnberg U19s in back-to-back pre-season friendlies at the Adi-Dassler Stadium in Herzogenaurach on Friday, July 17. The trip to Germany also includes a visit to Adidas HQ for the travelling group, which spans players from the Under-17 to Under-21 age groups.
Among those making the journey are United’s newly signed first-year scholars, including Kai Rooney and Jacey Carrick — sons of Wayne Rooney and Michael Carrick respectively. Kai Rooney made his Old Trafford debut last season, coming off the bench in an FA Youth Cup tie against Derby, while Carrick is set to feature as an Under-18 player in the coming campaign.
The full first-year scholar intake confirmed this week includes goalkeeper Jake Ford; defenders Harley Emsden-James, Idris Fabiyi, Gazi Ibragimov, Connor Laurie and Samuel O’Brien; midfielders Jaume Camacho Sidos, Jacey Carrick, Harlem McLaughlin, Pharell Silvester, Emmanuel Ziro and Jodie Nganga; and forwards Edson de Jonge-Seiros, Camron Mpofu and Kai Rooney.
United’s U21 side will be managed by Adam Lawrence next season. Lawrence returned to Carrington in January on an interim basis following a reshuffle of the club’s academy coaching staff and resumed work at the training ground on Monday. A formal announcement of his permanent appointment is expected imminently.
