Kane recalls 'surreal' golf round with Trump as England face Norway in World Cup quarter-final
Harry Kane has described playing golf with US President Donald Trump in Palm Beach as a 'pretty surreal experience', with the England captain speaking ahead of Saturday's World Cup 2026 quarter-final against Norway at Miami's Hard Rock Stadium.
Harry Kane has called his golf round with US President Donald Trump a “pretty surreal experience”, with the England captain speaking to reporters ahead of Saturday’s World Cup 2026 quarter-final against Norway at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium.
Kane revealed he accepted an invitation from Trump roughly 18 months ago to play a round in Florida, a meeting that resurfaced in the news after the President publicly praised the Bayern Munich striker earlier this week. “When the President invites you somewhere, it was a pretty surreal experience just to meet him and obviously play golf with him,” Kane said. “His golf is pretty good, to be honest with you. I hope I can play golf as good as him when I’m his age, that’s for sure. A unique experience, but I was just grateful that he invited me to play.”
Trump had told reporters in turn: “I think Kane is a great player. I played golf with him and I like him a lot. He’s a good golfer too. He’s really great.”
While Kane reflected on the offbeat anecdote, England manager Thomas Tuchel kept his focus firmly on the task ahead. Having come through a dramatic last-16 win over Mexico, Tuchel called on his players to show courage in the knockout rounds. “We need to be brave now,” he said. “It’s quarter-finals and the brave will have the luck on their side. We cannot have any regrets when we play a quarter-final. We have to go for it.”
England will face a Norway side expected to be spearheaded by Erling Haaland, with a place in the World Cup semi-finals on the line.
