Jordan Ibe handed community order after pleading guilty to assaulting ex-girlfriend

Jordan Ibe avoided a custodial sentence on Friday after Croydon Magistrates’ Court handed the former Liverpool winger a 12-month community order, 80 hours of unpaid work and 27 days of rehabilitation activity for assaulting his ex-girlfriend outside her home in Lambeth, south London, on 14 December.

Ibe, 30, pleaded guilty in July to assault occasioning actual bodily harm against Amie Mayson, having initially denied the charge in March. Prosecutor Aya Alshekhili told the court that the incident began when Mayson confronted Ibe and demanded he repay money she said he owed her. When she called him a “druggy”, Ibe — who had arrived carrying a bag of drinks, snacks and flowers — grabbed her arm “hard” before pulling a braid from her hair.

The court heard that Ibe told Mayson before the assault: “No, I’m going to be a prick.” Alshekhili said the attack left Mayson’s confidence, self-esteem and self-worth “on the floor”. In a victim impact statement read to the court, Mayson described a significant physical and mental toll, though she also expressed “compassion” for Ibe and said forgiveness had been part of her “healing journey”.

Ibe, who represented himself at the hearing, addressed the court directly. “I made a serious mistake,” he said. “I understand it is wrong. I am genuinely remorseful. I’ve had to look at myself in the mirror. I cannot change what I did but will take responsibility for what I do next.”

Magistrate Brij Kalia also imposed a £764 financial penalty, comprising £114 in surcharges and £650 in court costs.

Ibe made 58 appearances for Liverpool before going on to represent Derby County, Birmingham City and AFC Bournemouth. The former England under-21 international had spent the last two years playing non-league football before joining Lokomotiv Sofia in the Bulgarian First League in November 2025, a spell that ran until June.
