Balerdi, Greenwood, Højbjerg: OM set to lose several key players this summer
Back in training under Bruno Genesio's orders, OM players could be numerous to leave the club this summer. Balerdi and Greenwood have requested transfers, while Atalanta is interested in Højbjerg.
Olympique de Marseille faces the prospect of losing several major squad members this summer. According to an internal source cited by La Provence, “most of the key players will leave”, as the club must sell to balance its finances and fund recruitment.
Leonardo Balerdi and Mason Greenwood have both requested departures. Captain Pierre-Emile Højbjerg is also among potential leavers: the Italian press reports concrete interest from Atalanta in the Danish international midfielder.
The Greenwood situation is drawing the most attention. Several clubs have positioned themselves for the English forward, including Fenerbahçe and AS Roma. According to the Gazzetta dello Sport, the Roman club should submit an offer of 45 million euros, bonuses included, by Tuesday — below the 50 million euro floor price set by OM. Greenwood is said to have already agreed to both clubs, who must now reach an agreement with Marseille to finalize the deal.
Fenerbahçe could quickly submit a competing proposal, opening a battle between the two contenders. OM wants to conclude quickly to avoid further destabilizing the dressing room and to be able to focus on finding a successor — a task deemed difficult given the club’s limited means in the market.
These departures come in a context of transition: players returned to training on Monday and are discovering their new coach, Bruno Genesio, appointed after Habib Beye’s contract was terminated. For some of them, this return to La Commanderie could be just a step before an imminent departure.
