Havertz leaves Germany camp for scan after suspected hamstring injury in Amsterdam

Kai Havertz is heading back to Arsenal for a scan on a suspected hamstring injury after being forced off in the first half of Germany’s 1-1 draw with the Netherlands in Amsterdam on Thursday.

The 27-year-old was substituted midway through the opening period after receiving a high challenge from Crystal Palace midfielder Quinten Timber — the brother of Arsenal defender Jurrien Timber. Germany head coach Jürgen Klopp confirmed after the match that Havertz, along with Jamal Musiala, who withdrew from the starting line-up during the warm-up, would likely miss the remainder of the international break.

“At the moment both are on the MRI,” Klopp told radio network RTL. “I hope we get the diagnosis tonight. But of course that’s not great now. I hope this is just nothing bad. The boys are probably out for us. But hopefully then also relatively quickly available again.”

According to The Athletic, there is cautious optimism within Arsenal that the injury is not serious. Mikel Arteta will be hoping Havertz is fit in time for the Gunners’ Premier League fixture against Leeds on Saturday, 10 October.

The timing is a concern given Havertz’s injury history. He missed 20 games for club and country due to a hamstring problem at the end of the 2024-25 season, and then sat out the first half of last term with a knee injury. On both occasions, it took him several weeks after his initial return to reach full fitness.

Havertz has started Arsenal’s first five Premier League games this season and has scored three goals in seven appearances across all competitions. Arteta spoke glowingly of the forward last month, describing him as “five seconds ahead of the game” and praising his intelligence, work rate, and ability to improve those around him.

Arsenal face a demanding run of nine games in 27 days before the November international break, with Premier League fixtures against Leeds, Nottingham Forest, Everton, Liverpool, and Hull, as well as European and cup ties against Lille, Bayern Munich, Fleetwood, and Slavia Prague. Losing Havertz for any significant stretch of that schedule would be a significant blow to Arteta’s squad.
