Lewis Hamilton has been spotted driving Ferrari’s rare three-seater Formula 1 car at the team’s private Fiorano test track, just days after securing his maiden win as a Ferrari driver at the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix.

The footage, which spread rapidly across social media, shows the seven-time world champion at the wheel of what appears to be Ferrari’s legendary three-seater with two passengers on board. The reaction online was swift and predictably envious.

The car itself has a storied history. Designed by Rory Byrne in 2003 and based on the championship-winning F2002, it was later revised and modernised in 2013. Powered by a 3.0-litre, ten-cylinder engine producing over 800 horsepower, it was built specifically to give a select few the closest possible approximation of what it feels like to sit in a Formula 1 car at speed.

Fan responses ranged from awe to humour. “This is absolutely amazing and I can only imagine how f***ing cool it would be to go be in that car with Lewis driving,” one Reddit user wrote. Another added: “I’ve never seen this before, nor did I know what to expect. This is hilarious.” A third marvelled: “Is this the same 3-seater that was built in 2003 and based on the F2002? Honestly didn’t think it was still doing the rounds!”

Others were more pragmatic about the physical demands of the experience. “It would be fun for 2 hot laps and then your neck would be gone,” one commenter noted.

The outing comes at a high point in Hamilton’s debut season with Ferrari. His victory in Barcelona moved him to second in the drivers’ championship, though he remains 41 points behind leader Kimi Antonelli.
