Hamilton praises Neymar for echoing his 'Remember Who You Are' Ferrari win message
Lewis Hamilton has spoken warmly about long-time friend Neymar Jr after the Brazilian footballer used the same 'Remember Who You Are' caption Hamilton posted to mark his first Ferrari victory at the Barcelona Grand Prix.
Lewis Hamilton has praised Neymar Jr for amplifying his personal motivational message to a global audience, after the Brazilian forward echoed the caption the seven-time champion used to celebrate his maiden Ferrari victory.
Following Hamilton’s win at the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix — his first for Ferrari and his first since the 2024 Belgian Grand Prix — the 40-year-old posted an image to social media with the caption “REMEMBER WHO YOU ARE”. Neymar subsequently used the identical caption after returning to the Brazilian national squad during the 2026 World Cup group stage against Scotland, his first appearance since suffering a torn ACL in late 2023.
Hamilton had already replied to Neymar’s post with a single word — “ALWAYS” — but expanded on the moment during media day ahead of this weekend’s Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring.
“Yeah, we message each other often. Very thankful for the friendship I have with Neymar,” Hamilton told assembled media. “It was really cool to see him post that. Because I don’t always see people with amazing platforms like his really use it for sharing a lot of positivity. And in the world we live in right now, we need it more than ever.”
Hamilton added that seeing his words travel as far as they did gave him genuine satisfaction. “To see that what I said has travelled to Brazil and he heard it and felt compelled to share the same message with his following — it just gives me real happiness that it’s going even further than what I said.”
The Ferrari driver also touched on his personal connection with Neymar, noting he had recently been talking about the footballer’s children. “He’s got beautiful kids,” Hamilton said.
On track, Hamilton heads into the Austrian Grand Prix sitting second in the drivers’ championship, 41 points behind leader Kimi Antonelli.
