Hall set to sign Newcastle contract extension, ending Man United's left-back pursuit
Lewis Hall is closing in on a new deal at Newcastle United, according to talkSPORT, ending Manchester United's interest in the left-back after the Magpies refused to sell following the departures of Gordon, Tonali and Guimarães.
Lewis Hall is set to commit his future to Newcastle United by signing a new contract at St James’ Park, dealing a blow to Manchester United’s hopes of landing the left-back before the transfer window closes.
Manchester United had identified Hall as a key target to strengthen their options at left-back, but Newcastle were unwilling to part with the defender without a substantial fee — particularly after already selling Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimarães this summer.
According to talkSPORT, Hall has been won over by new head coach Matthias Jaissle, who has made an unbeaten start to his tenure at St James’ Park. The Magpies have drawn two and won one of their opening three Premier League fixtures, and also progressed in the Carabao Cup with a victory over West Brom.
The reported contract extension would represent a significant shift in Hall’s situation. The 20-year-old joined Newcastle from Chelsea in 2023 and has established himself as the club’s first-choice left-back, making him an attractive option for United as they sought cover and competition in that position.
With Hall now expected to stay, United will likely need to look elsewhere to address their left-back requirements before the window shuts.
