Bruno Genesio is under fire from media critics after repeatedly taking public shots at Olympique de Marseille’s management. The club, which he joined this summer, sits in the penultimate position in Ligue 1 following four consecutive defeats.

Arriving on the OM bench at the start of the season, the head coach made no secret of his disappointment with a disastrous summer transfer window: no arrivals, more than a dozen departures. Week after week, he spoke out to signal a lack of support from his hierarchy, notably calling for Frank McCourt to intervene publicly to “explain the situation”.

These repeated outbursts eventually irritated journalist Dave Appadoo, who raised his voice on RTL this weekend. “I’m getting a bit fed up with Bruno Genesio’s comments. This speech was understandable during the transfer window. But the transfer window ended more than three weeks ago now. What he’s saying won’t change anything.” Appadoo added: “I’m a fan of Bruno Genesio, since we’re in the same boat, I’m starting to take it badly. He’s starting to get on my nerves.”

His colleague Loïc Tanzi was even more direct, hinting at resignation. “He’s at a club, he has a management. If what his management does doesn’t please him, he’s free. He can leave. If he wants to resign, he can resign tomorrow.”

Despite the symbolic pressure of these statements, a voluntary departure for Genesio seems unlikely at this stage of the season. OM, 17th in the standings, are just three points from ninth place and travel to Troyes on October 11 for matchday 6 of Ligue 1.
