Dorgu exits Denmark camp after 30 minutes with thigh injury in Nations League blow for Man Utd

Patrick Dorgu lasted just 30 minutes of Denmark’s Nations League fixture against Wales on Sunday before limping off with a suspected thigh injury, leaving Manchester United facing another anxious wait on the fitness of a first-team player during the international break.

The 20-year-old defender had been named in Denmark’s starting XI but was substituted after being seen holding the back of his left thigh as he walked down the tunnel. Denmark head coach Brian Riemer confirmed Dorgu would return to Old Trafford and that a replacement would be called into the squad.

“He’s suffered an injury and has to go home. We’ll have to call up a replacement,” Riemer said, naming Anders Dreyer, Andreas Skov Olsen, and unnamed younger options as potential additions. Denmark still have two Nations League games remaining in the break — a home fixture against Portugal on Thursday and a second meeting with Wales at the weekend.

Dorgu will undergo further testing to determine the severity of the problem. The Danish full-back has made six appearances for United this season since joining in the January transfer window, contributing two assists.

The injury compounds a difficult international break for Ruben Amorim’s side. Captain Bruno Fernandes missed Portugal’s clash with Norway after carrying a knock from club level, with Portugal manager Jorge Jesus revealing the midfielder had been managing pain for around three games. Jesus confirmed he would not risk Fernandes against Norway, preferring to have him fit for the Denmark fixture.

The problems do not end there. Kobbie Mainoo and Marcus Rashford were both withdrawn from England duty before the break began, while Benjamin Sesko, Amad Diallo, Matthijs de Ligt, and Manuel Ugarte were also sidelined, leaving United with a significant number of players to monitor ahead of the resumption of Premier League action.
