Fury FC champion Calderon steps in on four days' notice to face Bashi at UFC Vegas 124
Carlos Calderon, the reigning Fury FC featherweight champion, has been drafted in as a last-minute replacement for UFC Vegas 124 after Lucas Brennan tore his ACL. Calderon faces Austin Bashi this Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas on just four days' notice.
Carlos Calderon will make his UFC debut on four days’ notice after stepping in to face Austin Bashi at UFC Vegas 124 this Saturday at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, MMA Fighting’s Mike Heck confirmed with sources familiar with the matchup.
Bashi (14-2) was originally scheduled to meet Lucas Brennan, but Brennan suffered a torn ACL, forcing matchmakers to find a late replacement. Calderon (11-4, 1 NC), the reigning Fury FC featherweight champion, answered the call and arrives on a three-fight winning streak, going 5-1 in his last six outings. His most recent performance was a five-round unanimous decision victory over Lorram Esteves in October, successfully defending his Fury FC title for the first time.
For Bashi, the bout represents a chance to arrest a difficult run in the UFC. Signed off Dana White’s Contender Series in 2024, he lost his undefeated record to Christian Rodriguez before bouncing back with a first-round submission win over John Yannis. He then dropped a decision to Jose Delgado this past July, leaving him in need of a statement performance.
The Bashi–Calderon matchup is one of several significant changes to the UFC Vegas 124 card. The event has been reshuffled at the top after Sean Brady was forced out of the originally scheduled main event against Gabriel Bonfim through injury. Waldo Cortes-Acosta and Johnny Walker have been thrown together as the new headliner, while strawweight contenders Tatiana Suarez and Virna Jandiroba meet in the co-main event.
The Bashi–Calderon bout is slated for the preliminary card.
