France vs Spain in World Cup semi-final: minute's silence to mark ten years since Nice attack
Before the France-Spain World Cup 2026 semi-final clash, a minute's silence will be observed at Arlington to commemorate the tenth anniversary of the July 14, 2016 Nice attack, which claimed 86 lives.
A minute’s silence will be observed on Tuesday, July 14 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, before the World Cup 2026 semi-final between France and Spain, in tribute to the 86 victims of the Nice attack, exactly ten years after the tragedy.
Emmanuel Macron announced the news on his X account, thanking the FIFA president for having “responded to France’s request and that of all French people mobilized”. On July 14, 2016, a truck plowed through crowds on the Promenade des Anglais in Nice during national holiday celebrations, killing 86 people.
“We will never forget,” added the head of state.
This tribute will be the second of its kind for the Blues during this 2026 World Cup. During the third group stage match against Norway, a minute’s silence had already been observed in tribute to more than 4,300 victims of the double earthquake in Venezuela.
