FIFA has announced the opening of an official investigation following an incident involving content creator IShowSpeed during the Argentina vs. Cape Verde match, played in the Round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup.

Present at Miami Stadium wearing a Cape Verde shirt, IShowSpeed — a major Cristiano Ronaldo fan and prominent social media figure — had shown his support for Argentina’s opponent. This provocative gesture drew serious insults from some Argentine supporters, an incident that FIFA decided to address.

“FIFA strongly condemns racism, hatred and discrimination in all their forms. These acts have no place in football, at the World Cup, or anywhere in society. FIFA was informed of an incident involving a supporter and IShowSpeed during the Argentina vs. Cape Verde match and has immediately launched an investigation,” the international federation stated in a statement posted on X.

The governing body of world football also reiterated the tournament’s core values: “The World Cup is a celebration of unity, diversity and respect. It brings together people, cultures and communities from around the world, and anyone who acts in a way that undermines these values is not welcome in our sport.”

IShowSpeed has been closely following the competition since the start. He was notably present in Dallas to witness Portugal’s elimination by Spain (0-1), before traveling to Atlanta to support Egypt against Lionel Messi’s Argentina — the eternal rival of his idol Cristiano Ronaldo. FIFA has not specified the timeline or procedures for its investigation.
