Fernandes rescues United with clinical finish as 10-man Ipswich fall at Old Trafford

Bruno Fernandes delivered the decisive moment at Old Trafford as Manchester United beat Ipswich Town to record their first Premier League win of the season, with the Portuguese captain’s clinical left-foot finish sparking a comeback after the visitors had taken the lead.

He stayed, won both the PFA Players’ Player of the Year and the Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year, and remains the heartbeat of United’s attack.

For Ipswich, there were genuine bright moments — their passing and movement caused United problems for long stretches — but the margin of defeat reflected the gulf in individual quality at the decisive moments. Davis’s opener aside, the visitors were ultimately undone by a single slip and a goalkeeper caught off his line.
