Favard launches scathing attack on Riou: « Hated everywhere he goes »
In the podcast Face à Raju, Gilles Favard reignites his open feud with commentator Yoann Riou, accusing him of lacking football knowledge and being universally despised in the industry.
Nearly ten years after their on-air clash on L’Équipe du Soir, Gilles Favard has not buried the hatchet with Yoann Riou. In the podcast Face à Raju, the former sports advisor to Waldemar Kita at FC Nantes delivered a scathing attack against the star commentator of L’Équipe channel.
« I’m not going to give importance to someone who has none. For me, he’s a nobody, » said Favard, 76, before continuing: « He has no football knowledge whatsoever. The only thing I can tell you is that he is hated by everyone. Everywhere he goes. And nobody talks about it. »
The two men had clashed violently in 2017 during the show hosted by Olivier Ménard, with Favard threatening to hit Riou. The incident resulted in several suspensions from the airwaves, followed by another ban for controversial remarks targeting Hiroki Sakai, the former Olympique de Marseille defender.
Since then, the two men’s careers have diverged. Favard has made multiple appearances on Touche pas à mon poste, where Cyril Hanouna regularly invited him to confront Gilles Verdez. Yoann Riou, meanwhile, has remained loyal to L’Équipe channel, where he continues to work as a commentator on L’Équipe de Greg and as a member of Grosses Têtes on RTL.
