Ex-Bellator fighter Alejandra Lara suspended nine months after cocaine metabolite test

Alejandra Lara, a former Bellator MMA fighter, has been suspended through January 24, 2027 and fined by the Nevada Athletic Commission after testing positive for benzoylecgonine — the primary metabolite of cocaine — following her loss at a Tuff-N-Uff event in April.

Deputy Attorney General Mike Detmer presented an adjudication agreement on Wednesday confirming the sanction. Benzoylecgonine is classified as a metabolite of a “prohibited stimulant” and is banned at all times for athletes competing in combat sports under Nevada jurisdiction.

In addition to the nine-month ban, Lara was issued a $412.50 fine and ordered to pay $250.60 in prosecution fees. Should she seek a Nevada licence in the future, she will also be required to undergo additional drug testing before being cleared to compete in the state again.

The positive test stemmed from Lara’s most recent outing — a loss to Jaeleen Robledo at Tuff-N-Uff, where she had been competing on the regional circuit after departing Bellator.

During her time with Bellator, Lara was a prominent figure in the women’s flyweight and bantamweight divisions, sharing the cage with notable opponents including Illima-Lei Macfarlane, Juliana Velasquez, Kana Watanabe, and DeAnna Bennett.
