Enzo Fernandez and Ndiaye headline City's £190m window as fans give it 8/10 or higher

Manchester City ended the summer transfer window with two deadline-day signings — Enzo Fernandez arriving from Chelsea for £125m and Iliman Ndiaye joining from Everton for a fee that could reach £65m — as the club committed roughly £190m to reshape Enzo Maresca’s squad ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The pair were not City’s only arrivals. Elliot Anderson, Ayyoub Bouaddi and Allan Elias had already joined before the window’s final hours, giving Maresca five new options across the squad.

The summer was not without its losses. Bernardo Silva and John Stones departed on free transfers, while Rodri’s move to Barcelona generated £64.5m for the club. Several fringe players also moved on, including Nico Gonzalez, Savinho, Omar Marmoush, Tijjani Reijnders and James Trafford. Jack Grealish returned to Everton on a loan deal on deadline day.

City had set out to replace every player who left, a target they ultimately fell short of. Despite that, supporter sentiment has been broadly positive. A reader poll of 1,590 responses conducted after the window closed found that 54 per cent rated the window an 8 or 9 out of 10, while a further 27 per cent awarded a perfect 10. Only 14 per cent settled on a 6 or 7, and just five per cent rated it a 5 or below.

The headline addition is Fernandez, the Argentina international who was a central figure in Chelsea’s midfield since his £106.8m move to Stamford Bridge in January 2023. His arrival at the Etihad gives Maresca a proven operator at the highest level, capable of dictating tempo and contributing in both phases of the game.

Ndiaye, meanwhile, brings pace and directness to City’s attack after an impressive season at Everton. The Senegal international had been one of the more eye-catching performers in the Premier League last term, and his signing underlines City’s intent to maintain their domestic and European ambitions under Maresca.

City will have the opportunity to add further depth when the mid-season transfer window opens on 1 January 2027.
