Emmers stuns 3-to-1 favourite Douglas with first-round knockout at UFC Sacramento
Jamall Emmers pulled off a significant upset at UFC Sacramento on Saturday, dropping Lerryan Douglas with a right hand at 3:38 of Round 1 to end the prospect's six-fight win streak and claim his third consecutive UFC victory.
Jamall Emmers arrived at UFC Sacramento as a 3-to-1 underdog and left with a first-round knockout, stopping featherweight prospect Lerryan Douglas at 3:38 of the opening round on Saturday to complete one of the night’s biggest upsets.
Douglas had entered the preliminary bout riding a six-fight win streak and carrying genuine momentum after a spectacular UFC debut in March — a first-round finish of Julian Erosa that had marked him as one to watch in the 145-pound division. None of that counted for much once Emmers found his range.
Rather than trade freely with the dangerous Douglas, Emmers worked the cage perimeter with patience, circling to disrupt his opponent’s rhythm and limit the angles Douglas could exploit. The strategy paid off when Emmers landed a 1-2 combination that broke through Douglas’ defences, the right hand travelling straight down the pipe to badly hurt him and force the stoppage.
The win moves Emmers to 23-8 overall and gives him three consecutive victories inside the UFC for the first time in his career, following earlier wins over Hyder Amil and Gabriel Miranda. For Douglas, now 14-6, it is his first UFC defeat in just his second octagon appearance.
