Désiré Doué left the pitch at Pierre-Mauroy at half-time of the 2-2 draw between Lille and PSG on Friday evening in the opening match of Matchday 2 of Ligue 1, due to a slight muscle discomfort. Luis Enrique immediately downplayed concerns after the match.

“A small muscle issue, there’s nothing serious, but we don’t want to take any risk with any player,” said the PSG coach in his post-match press conference. The former Rennes player was replaced by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who was set to come on anyway during this match.

According to reports after the match, Doué’s substitution at half-time was even planned before kick-off: the PSG staff wanted to share his playing time with Kvaratskhelia. The 2025 Golden Boy is the forward who has accumulated the most minutes since the start of the season and one of the most-used outfield players in the squad — a workload management that explains this precaution.

Moreover, PSG showed character once again in this trip to Lille. Down 2-0, as they were in their match at Rennes the previous weekend, Luis Enrique’s side snatched a draw thanks to goals from Vitinha and Marquinhos in added time, avoiding a second consecutive league defeat.
