Djorkaeff slams eliminated Brazil: "You want to throw up watching this team"
1998 World Cup winner against Brazil, Youri Djorkaeff harshly criticized the Seleção after their Round of 16 elimination at the 2026 World Cup by Norway (2-1), lamenting the complete absence of creative playmakers.
Youri Djorkaeff pulled no punches in judging Brazil after they were eliminated in the Round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup by Erling Haaland’s Norway (2-1). A 1998 World Cup winner against the Seleção of Ronaldo, Rivaldo and Cafu, the former France attacking midfielder delivered a scathing indictment of current Brazilian football.
“We’re talking about Brazil. Did you watch Brazil-Norway? You want to throw up when you watch this Brazil,” Djorkaeff said. A comment that sums up the bitterness of an observer who knew the technical greatness of the Seleção at its peak.
At the heart of his criticism: the glaring absence of leaders capable of making a difference in the opponent’s box. Djorkaeff specifically targeted Neymar, who scored a penalty late in the match — the only Brazilian spark of the encounter. “Whether it’s Neymar, 35 years old, who hasn’t played in five years, who does something at the end, who creates something… But where are the others? Where are the Brazilian creators? You’re not going to sell me Paquetá or whoever… Honestly, it’s an aberration.”
The former Paris Saint-Germain player also compared Haaland’s clinical finishing to Brazilian wastefulness on Norway’s second goal, using Ronaldo Fenômeno as his benchmark. “I’ll give you the Brazil-Norway example, 2nd goal: Haaland receives the ball, he controls it, you see the space and time he takes? Then he pushes the ball, he shoots, simplicity! Endrick, he pushed the ball, he’s all alone in front of the goalkeeper… If it’s Ronaldo, if it’s Fenômeno who has the ball, he breaks the goalkeeper’s legs and then he finishes!”
This Round of 16 elimination confirms yet another disappointment for Brazil, which remains one of the 56 teams already eliminated from this 2026 World Cup while eight nations still compete for the trophy.
