Dislocated shoulder ends Mike Perry's night as Brandon Jenkins lands upset TKO in round one
Mike Perry suffered a dislocated shoulder early in the first round and was stopped by late-notice replacement Brandon Jenkins via TKO at 2:38, after original opponent Dillon Danis withdrew just 48 hours before the event.
Brandon Jenkins delivered the biggest win of his career on Saturday, stopping Mike Perry via first-round TKO at 2:38 after Perry dislocated his shoulder during an exchange, having accepted the fight on roughly 15 hours’ notice following Dillon Danis’ late withdrawal.
Perry came out aggressively from the opening bell, landing a clean hard left hand during an early combination. But during a subsequent exchange, his left shoulder visibly popped out of place as he held Jenkins and threw right uppercuts. Jenkins immediately capitalised, landing a vicious body kick that sent Perry to the canvas.
The referee allowed the fight to continue despite the injury. Jenkins attacked again with another body kick, dropping Perry a second time, then followed him to the ground and hammered away with punches until the stoppage was called.
Replay footage confirmed the injury was a freak occurrence rather than the result of a direct strike. Medical personnel attended to Perry on the canvas for several minutes, attempting to relocate the shoulder as he lay in visible pain.
“What is it, 15 hours’ notice?” Jenkins said after the finish. “It was a no-brainer, I was coming out here. They called me, I said yes. I asked for Nate Diaz but I got Mike Perry. Hopefully I can get a good fight with Nate Diaz next.”
Perry had originally been scheduled to face Danis, who pulled out just two days before the event. The short-notice turnaround ultimately ended in a serious injury and a defeat, with the timeline of Perry’s recovery from the shoulder dislocation not yet clear.
