Deschamps linked with Trabzonspor after Fatih Tekke's departure

Didier Deschamps could make a comeback in Turkey. Hours after the official announcement of the split between Trabzonspor and coach Fatih Tekke, supporters and observers of the club have put forward the name of the former France national team manager on social media.

In its statement, the Turkish club said it had ended Tekke’s contract “by mutual agreement”, praising “his commitment, dedication, the successes achieved and the value brought to Trabzonspor”. No official lead has been confirmed for the succession.

Deschamps, 56, left the helm of the France national team after fourteen years in charge, including a World Cup title in 2018. He has publicly ruled out retirement and said he was open to a new project, whether at a club or leading a national team. His name had already circulated around Real Madrid — which ultimately opted for José Mourinho — as well as Manchester United and Saudi clubs.

Trabzonspor would represent a challenge of a different nature. The club, based on the Black Sea, is competing in the Conference League this season and has made an ambitious transfer window, notably recruiting Mohamed Salah at the end of his Liverpool contract, his former teammate Darwin Nunez and former AS Monaco player Fabinho.

At this stage, no negotiations between Deschamps and Trabzonspor have been reported by sources close to both parties. The interest remains for now that of supporters, without confirmation from the club’s management.
