Larsonneur sidelined for several weeks, Saint-Étienne without starting goalkeeper before Guingamp
Suffering from a knee sprain, Saint-Étienne goalkeeper Gautier Larsonneur will miss several more weeks of competition. His replacement Mamour Ndiaye should therefore start in goal against Guingamp on Saturday evening, during Matchday 11 of Ligue 2.
Gautier Larsonneur will not return to action anytime soon. Saint-Étienne manager Ian Cathro confirmed at a press conference that his starting goalkeeper, absent for two matches, is suffering from a knee sprain and will be sidelined for several more weeks.
“There are several stages, notably strengthening the affected leg and regaining fitness. I cannot give you a more precise absence duration,” said the Saint-Étienne coach. The 29-year-old goalkeeper will therefore not make the trip to Brittany on Saturday evening for the reception of Guingamp, counting towards Matchday 11 of Ligue 2.
It is therefore Mamour Ndiaye who will defend the Greens’ goal once again. Cathro was satisfied with his replacement’s performances: “He does his job in goal in a calm manner, in a balanced way, and that is what allows him to grow gradually, both individually and within the team. What he is doing is good, we are observing him, and he will continue to work in the same way.”
This absence comes in a favourable context for Saint-Étienne, solid leaders of Ligue 2 after three consecutive victories against Rodez (2-0), Red Star (1-0) and Nantes (1-0). The Greens approach this trip to Guingamp with the firm intention of consolidating their place at the top of the standings.
