Franco Colapinto turned heads in downtown Austin on Friday when the Alpine driver appeared at a Williams fan zone on Congress Avenue wearing a full Doctor Doom cape and mask, embracing the team’s tie-in with the upcoming Marvel film Avengers: Doomsday.

The costume was handed to the Argentine at the event, which Williams organised to promote its collaboration with the film ahead of the United States Grand Prix at the Circuit of the Americas. Videos of Colapinto posing with fans quickly spread across social media, drawing attention from both Formula 1 and Marvel audiences.

Williams used the fan zone to display a show car wearing a livery inspired by Avengers: Doomsday, building on the team’s appearance at a Comic-Con event earlier this year. The event also featured a special-edition comic placing Marvel superheroes alongside Williams drivers Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz.

The Marvel theme extended into Friday practice, where Albon and Sainz took to the track in superhero-themed race suits — Albon in a Thor-inspired design and Sainz in a Captain America-themed suit.

Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled for release in December, with Robert Downey Jr. playing Doctor Doom alongside Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, and Danny Ramirez. Mackie and Ramirez are expected to attend Sunday’s race as guests of the Williams team.
