City chase Enzo Fernandez and Gakpo as triple exit and Allan deal reshape squad

Manchester City face a frantic final stretch of the transfer window, with a £75m sale of Savinho to Tottenham all but confirmed and a £32.1m deal agreed to sign Palmeiras winger Allan as his replacement, while the club continues to pursue Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez ahead of the September deadline.

Savinho’s move to Spurs — a fee that could rise to £85m — is in its final formalities, making him the most advanced of City’s outgoings. Tottenham are also confident of signing Omar Marmoush, while Newcastle are set to seal a £50m deal for Nico Gonzalez, despite the Egyptian striker training with City on Monday.

A permanent sale of Gonzalez would free up the funds Chelsea are demanding for Fernandez. City believe the player is keen on the move, but the West London club hold significant leverage as the clock runs down, and landing the Argentina international would likely require City to break their transfer record for the second time in months. Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton had been considered as an alternative, though City accepted Palace’s position that he would not be sold this summer. The signing of Ayyoub Bouaddi is expected to be completed within days, but Fernandez remains the primary midfield target.

Allan’s arrival from Palmeiras — an initial fee of £32.1m (€37.5m) with up to €2.5m in add-ons — is designed to cover Savinho’s departure, but further business is still needed. Jack Grealish is also expected to leave before the window closes, a situation complicated by Jeremy Doku’s injury, which has already ruled him out of the season’s opening fixtures and reduced City’s wide options.

In a late development, City have registered interest in Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo, who Tottenham had also been tracking alongside Savinho. Whether Liverpool would countenance selling to a direct rival given the intensity of the clubs’ rivalry over the past decade remains an open question.

Beyond the headline deals, City must also clarify the short-term futures of several young players. Claudio Echeverri, Max Chabot, and Steph Mfuni are among the emerging talents yet to confirm their paths for the coming season, adding further complexity to what is shaping up as one of the club’s most demanding windows in recent memory.
