Chute Boxe head coach Diego Lima has renamed his training institute after UFC flyweight Allan Nascimento, who died in his sleep in early August at the age of 22-7 on his professional record, reportedly due to a cardiac arrest.

Lima announced that the Diego Lima Institute will now be known as the Allan Nascimento Institute, a permanent tribute to the fighter he coached from the age of 14. Speaking to MMA Fighting while visibly emotional, Lima made clear the gesture was a lifelong commitment.

“Allan has been my student since he was 14 years old,” Lima said. “So, we have been together for 20 years. It’s almost been a month. There hasn’t been a single day when I haven’t cried. Our institute today, the Diego Lima Institute, is not going to be called the Diego Lima Institute anymore. It’s going to be called the Allan Nascimento Institute. As long as I live, I will honor his name. As long as I live, I will say his name because he was my student, he is my student, he is my athlete.”

Lima also revealed that Nascimento, nicknamed “Puro Osso,” had served as his business partner behind the scenes, managing the email correspondence for Lima’s professional affairs. “He was one of the most loyal friends I’ve ever had in my life,” Lima said. “A lot of people didn’t know this, but when it came to all my management affairs, he was my partner. I used to joke with him that when he retired, I would retire too. Those plans ended up changing a little bit.”

The loss has reverberated throughout the Chute Boxe camp. Charles Oliveira, a teammate and close friend of Nascimento, reportedly withdrew from a scheduled rematch against Arman Tsarukyan at UFC 331 to grieve his death.
