Christian Echols misses weight by three pounds as DWCS Season 10 Week 5 nears
Christian Echols became the first fighter to fail the scales in Dana White's Contender Series Season 10, coming in at 189 pounds — three over the middleweight limit — ahead of his bout against Martin Kozak on September 8 in Las Vegas.
Christian Echols weighed in at 189 pounds on Sunday, missing the middleweight limit by three pounds and becoming the first fighter to fail the scales in Season 10 of Dana White’s Contender Series. Echols will face a financial penalty, with a percentage of his fight purse withheld as a result of the miss.
Echols is scheduled to meet Martin Kozak at Meta Apex in Las Vegas on September 8, with the bout still expected to proceed. All four other fighters on the Week 5 card came in on weight.
Headlining the card are light heavyweights Quentin Pasley (204.5 lbs) and Arlind Berisha (205.5 lbs). The supporting bouts feature Reginaldo Geraldo Jr. (170.5) vs. Isaac Moreno (170.5) at welterweight, Apollo Gomes (135.5) vs. Won Il Kwon (135.5) at bantamweight, and Colton Loud (125.5) vs. Christian Natividad (125.5) at flyweight.
The Week 5 card spans five weight classes — light heavyweight, welterweight, middleweight, bantamweight and flyweight — as the season enters its penultimate week. Fighters who impress Dana White on the night are typically offered a UFC contract on the spot, making the weigh-in miss a notable stumble for Echols ahead of what is effectively a public audition.
