Chelsea beats Luton Town 2-0 and advances to League Cup round of 16
Three days after their Premier League victory at Fulham, Chelsea dominated Luton Town (2-0) on Thursday, qualifying for the League Cup round of 16 thanks to goals from Welbeck and an own goal by Odoffin.
Chelsea advanced to the League Cup round of 16 by dominating Luton Town 2-0 on Thursday evening, in a match controlled from start to finish by Xabi Alonso’s Blues.
The qualification confirmed Chelsea’s good form: three days earlier, the club had made a successful Premier League debut by winning at Fulham (2-3). Against Luton, the Spanish manager fielded French internationals Lacroix and Gusto from the start, as well as former Strasbourg players Penders and Barco, both starting for the occasion.
The difference came in the second half. Welbeck opened the scoring in the 50th minute, before Odoffin sealed the match by scoring an own goal in the 79th. A decisive result that was never in doubt.
Chelsea’s next fixture promises to be more challenging: the club will host Brighton at Stamford Bridge on Sunday in the Premier League. The Seagulls, leaders after the opening day, impressed last weekend by thrashing Aston Villa.
