Carrick faces media under pressure as United host bottom-placed Spurs with key trio doubtful
Michael Carrick addressed reporters ahead of Manchester United's Premier League clash with Tottenham Hotspur, with the United head coach under mounting pressure after a poor run of results and fitness doubts over Benjamin Sesko, Kobbie Mainoo, and Marcus Rashford.
Michael Carrick faced the media on Friday ahead of Manchester United’s Premier League home fixture against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, with the United head coach fielding questions about a troubled start to the season and a growing injury list.
Carrick enters the weekend under significant pressure. A 1-1 draw at Fulham, a Carabao Cup defeat to Brighton after leading 2-0, and a loss in the Manchester derby have left United’s form looking fragile. The Brighton result in particular drew a sharp reaction from supporters inside Old Trafford, with audible frustration from the Stretford End at full time.
Tottenham offer United a chance to steady themselves. Roberto De Zerbi’s side have yet to win in the Premier League this season and currently sit bottom of the table, making Saturday’s fixture one United will be expected to win.
On the injury front, Benjamin Sesko is the most significant doubt after withdrawing from the Slovenia squad during the international break. Kobbie Mainoo and Marcus Rashford are also carrying fitness concerns, and Carrick was expected to provide updates on all three at the press conference, scheduled for around 1.30pm UK time.
Carrick was also likely to face questions about the verdict in the 115 financial charges case against Manchester City, a subject that has dominated discussion across the Premier League in recent weeks.
The coming days are shaping up as a defining period for Carrick’s tenure. With results yet to convince and patience among supporters already being tested, a win against the league’s bottom side on Saturday has moved from desirable to near-essential.
