Canada lose star wing Corrigan to injury ahead of Six Nations clashes in Europe

Canada’s Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 runners-up campaign hero Alysha Corrigan has been ruled out of the team’s upcoming European WXV Global Series fixtures with injury, the national side confirmed. The 29-year-old wing will be reassessed ahead of Canada’s home Tests against England in October.

Corrigan’s absence is a significant loss for head coach Kévin Rouet’s squad. The Prince Edward Island native was one of the standout performers at Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025, crossing for four tries as Canada reached the final. At club level last season in Premiership Women’s Rugby, she helped Saracens to the title while scoring 11 tries, beating 48 defenders, completing 22 line breaks and assisting a further five.

Rouet does retain quality wide options in Fancy Bermudez and Asia Hogan-Rochester, and the squad received a timely lift from Charity Williams, who marked her Test debut with a try. Hogan-Rochester, along with Olivia Apps and Claire Gallagher, also balanced 15-a-side duties with appearances in the HSBC SVNS Series and HSBC SVNS World Championship last season, where Canada finished fifth and third respectively.

Canada opened their WXV Global Series campaign with a commanding 64-26 victory over Scotland in Edinburgh. They face England at Sandy Park in Exeter this weekend before travelling to La Rochelle to take on France.

Corrigan’s injury will be reassessed with a view to her returning for Canada’s home double-header against England in Toronto and Ottawa in October. Those fixtures are already generating significant interest — ticket sales for the match at Toronto’s BMO Field have surpassed the previous record attendance for a standalone women’s rugby fixture in North America.
