Brighton signings hint at Minteh exit as Liverpool eye January move for winger

Brighton’s decision to sign two right wingers in the final hours of the summer transfer window has strengthened the belief that Yankuba Minteh could be heading to Liverpool sooner rather than later, with Anfield sources also said to have told Monaco’s Lamine Camara to hold on for a potential move.

Fabian Hurzeler’s side completed a deal for Femi Azeez from Millwall via deal sheet in the early hours of Wednesday morning. The 25-year-old joins Zadok Johanna, a 19-year-old Nigerian winger signed from Swedish club AIK earlier in the summer, as Brighton’s second right-sided addition of the window. The double recruitment is widely being read as preparation for Minteh’s eventual departure.

Liverpool had two bids rejected for the Gambian winger during the summer, with their highest offer reaching £60 million. The club had identified Minteh as a long-term successor to Mohamed Salah on the right flank, but Brighton held firm on both occasions. With the Seagulls now appearing to shore up their options in that position, the door to a renewed approach — either in January or in the summer of 2027 — looks increasingly open.

A separate midfield target has also moved closer to Anfield. Lamine Camara’s proposed £47.1 million move from Monaco to Chelsea collapsed on deadline day, and talkSPORT reported shortly afterwards that Liverpool had contacted Monaco to register their interest in signing the Senegal international next summer. The club is said to have asked Camara to wait, with the 22-year-old reportedly told a significant transfer will come “very soon.”

Camara has been identified internally as a potential replacement for Alexis Mac Allister, according to the same report. Monaco sporting director Thiago Scuro is involved in the discussions as the French club weighs up its options for the player.

The developments come as Liverpool prepare for a Premier League fixture against Ipswich Town, with manager Andoni Iraola’s midfield concerns — a recurring theme throughout the summer — still unresolved heading into the new season.
