Bowen commits to West Ham's promotion push, ending Manchester United's summer pursuit
Jarrod Bowen has pledged his future to West Ham and signed revised contract terms, ruling out a move to Manchester United this summer. The 29-year-old captain says helping the Hammers return to the Premier League is his clear priority.
Jarrod Bowen has shut down speculation over a move to Manchester United by publicly committing to West Ham and signing revised contract terms, according to a report from The Athletic, ending the Red Devils’ hopes of landing the winger this summer.
Bowen, 28, had been linked with a departure from the London Stadium following West Ham’s relegation from the Premier League, with United among the clubs credited with interest. Instead, the England international met with club owner Daniel Kretinsky and sporting director Jiri Svarc and came away convinced by their vision for the club’s future.
“I flew out to Prague in the Czech Republic to meet Daniel and Jiri and the ambition that I got from them, certainly in terms of the direction the Club wants to move in, it interests me a lot,” Bowen said in a video posted by West Ham. “It didn’t take a lot for me, because this Club means a lot to me.”
The captain was direct about his motivation, dismissing any suggestion that his previous public pledges were hollow. “When I say something, I don’t hide away from it,” he said. “For me, the main thing is to get this club back into the Premier League. It was a no-brainer for me to be here and the vision is clear, it’s the Premier League.”
The Athletic reports that Bowen’s revised deal does not extend the contract beyond its current 2030 expiry date, but the renegotiated terms are enough to confirm he will remain at the club for the coming Championship season.
With Bowen now off the table, United’s attention in the wide positions may turn elsewhere. The club have been tracking Dutch international Crysencio Summerville, another winger with West Ham connections, as they look to strengthen their attacking options before the summer window closes.
