Karim Benzema and Al-Hilal have ended their collaboration by mutual agreement, the Saudi club announced in a statement published on Monday, August 31. The 2022 Ballon d’Or winner is thus leaving Riyadh after only six months spent wearing the club’s colors.

“Al-Hilal club has agreed with French player Karim Benzema to end by mutual agreement the contractual relationship between the two parties, following the period during which he represented Al-Hilal’s first team,” the club wrote in its official statement.

Al-Hilal took the opportunity to praise the French international’s time at the club: “Al-Hilal club wishes to warmly thank Benzema for his commitment, professionalism, leadership and performances on and off the pitch, and has expressed its sincere gratitude to him for the time spent wearing the Al-Hilal shirt. The club wishes him great success for the rest of his career.”

Benzema’s departure, which had been expected for several days, brings an end to a Saudi adventure that was as brief as it was turbulent. The future of the French striker remains to be determined.
