Basile Boli Snags Selfie with Jay-Z Pitchside in Philadelphia
Present at Lincoln Financial Field to watch his protégé Yan Diomandé, Jay-Z was intercepted by Basile Boli during the Côte d'Ivoire–Ecuador match (1-0), which counted toward Group E of the 2026 World Cup.
Côte d’Ivoire began its 2026 World Cup campaign with a narrow victory over Ecuador (1-0) on Tuesday evening at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, thanks to a goal from Amad Diallo in added time (90th minute). This success places the Elephants atop Group E, level on points with Germany, which crushed Curaçao (7-1).
While the result did the heavy lifting, it was a scene pitchside that caught attention. Jay-Z was in the stands to watch Yan Diomandé, the young winger from Leipzig (19 years old) who now operates under the banner of Roc Nation, the agency founded by the American rapper. Diomandé’s name has been circulating notably around PSG, and his performance on the right flank of the Ivorian attack can hardly have disappointed his representative.
Basile Boli, a consultant pitchside, seized the moment. When Jay-Z passed in front of him, the former Olympique de Marseille and France defender intercepted him to ask for a selfie — a scene captured live and that quickly circulated. A gesture that some have not hesitated to call the best moment of the evening for the former French international.
