Aubameyang, 37, Already Three Goals in Three Matches with Deportivo La Corogne
Scorer against Valencia (3-1) on Sunday following his goals against Elche and Malaga, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is displaying an impressive scoring rate with his new club in Spain's second division.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored his third goal in three league matches with Deportivo La Corogne on Sunday, in the 3-1 victory over Valencia. At 37 years old, the Gabonese striker confirms he has lost none of his finishing ability.
His third goal of the season perfectly sums up the player: starting from midfield, Aubameyang got past the last defender before placing a precise shot past the goalkeeper. A pure striker’s goal, signed by a player many thought was in decline.
The former Bordeaux, Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona player had delivered a solid season in Ligue 1 with Olympique Marseille, with ten goals to his name. But since joining Deportivo, promoted to Spain’s second division, he seems to have found a new lease of life. He had already opened his account against Elche (1-1), then repeated the feat away at Malaga (1-1), before this latest achievement on Sunday.
Thanks to him, Depor is one of the pleasant surprises of the season’s start. Five points from three matches, a place in the upper half of the table: the Galician club, with its storied history, appears well-positioned to be a dark horse in this division.
