Arsenal's summer spending could surpass £160m as four targets signal transfer intent
Arsenal have already secured Piero Hincapie for £35m and are now pursuing four additional signings worth a combined £160m, including Leicester's Jeremy Monga, free agent Oscar Mingueza, and further targets identified by sporting director Andrea Berta.
Arsenal are on course to spend well over £160m this summer after confirming the £35m permanent signing of Ecuador international Piero Hincapie, with sporting director Andrea Berta understood to have green-lit moves for at least four further targets.
The shift in approach from last summer is notable. Where Arsenal matched a club-record £250m outlay across a broad range of signings in 2024, Berta is this time focused on fewer, higher-quality acquisitions — a strategy that reflects the Gunners’ elevated standing following their first Premier League title in 22 years and a run to the Champions League final.
Jeremy Monga — £10m
Arsenal are in negotiations with Leicester City over 16-year-old winger Jeremy Monga, who is understood to favour a move to north London despite interest from several other Premier League clubs. The Foxes rejected an opening offer of around £5m and are holding out for at least £10m. Monga signs his first professional contract at the King Power Stadium on 10 July when he turns 17, at which point Leicester will be entitled to command a transfer fee and both clubs are keen to avoid the matter going to a tribunal.
Oscar Mingueza — Free
With Tino Livramento’s injury record and Newcastle’s valuation making that deal unlikely, Arsenal have turned their attention to Celta Vigo’s Oscar Mingueza as a versatile full-back option. The 27-year-old’s contract expires at the end of June, meaning he is available on a free transfer. Spanish outlet AS reports that Arsenal have been alerted to his availability, though Juventus and other clubs are also understood to be monitoring the situation.
Arteta has long prioritised players capable of operating across multiple positions in the backline, and Mingueza — who can cover both flanks — fits that profile. His availability at no transfer cost makes him a particularly attractive option as Berta looks to balance quality with financial efficiency across the window.
With Hincapie already through the door and negotiations advancing on multiple fronts, Arsenal’s total outlay this summer could comfortably exceed £160m before the window closes — a figure that underlines just how far the club has travelled since Mikel Arteta’s arrival in December 2019.
